The film "Bella" has saved more than a hundred human live

June 23 2008 - Rome

Roma - The film "Bella" has saved more than a hundred human lives. More than 100 mothers refused an abortion after watching it. Bella was a winner of the Toronto Film Festival. Alejandro Monteverde directed the film, which stars Eduardo Verástegui and Tammy Blanchard.

"Bella" is a true story that promotes values such as forgiveness, true love, friendship, sacrifice and, of course, life.

Eduardo Verástegui hopes that the audiences who see his movies get something more than entertainment out of it. "That is my hope as a producer, that when people leave the cinema, they leave wanting to love more and judge less, that they leave wanting to be better human beings, that they leave full of hope, love, faith, that they leave with a candlelight in their heart, that they leave inspired," he said.

Six years ago, Eduardo promised God he would not participate in projects that would offend his faith, his family or the Latino community. For Verástegui those were hard times because he only received offers that went against his decision. Sticking to his principles kept him jobless for four years.

"I realized that as an actor I didn't have the power to control the message of the movie. One submits to the director's screenplay and one has to do what he says you have to do, you end up compromising yourself," Verástegui explained. "So if you want to have the power to control the message you have to do it yourself and become a producer."

Eduardo and two friends founded a production company called Metanoia Films. "Bella" is their first project. The movie was successful, although many said it would fail since it has no violence and is meant for all audiences. But Eduardo thought and still thinks success is not the most important thing.

"I think the most important thing in the beginning is to have a mission," Verástegui explained. "To use your talents to make a difference in the lives of others, a positive difference. Mother Teresa of Calcutta said we are not called to be people of success, we are called to be people faithful to God, that is our success," he added.

Through Metanoia Films, Eduardo will continue to make projects that help viewers to be better people. He is currently searching for funding to produce seven other films.
