The
two talents Eduardo Verástegui and Carlos Ponce
join at the festival

31st
of October 2005
LOS
ANGELES CALIFORNIA: Eduardo Verástegui and Carlos Ponce
both appeared in Hollywood, at the Los Angeles Latino Film
Festival with their most recent movie, Meet Me In Miami.
The romantic comedy tells the story of the life of Luis
(Ponce) and Eduardo (Verástegui). They both travelled from
Miami all the way down to New Zealand in their quest to
find the love of Luis, the lady of his dreams (Tara Leniston).
Saturday night Eduardo and Carlos attended the event at
the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, meeting with the fans
and the press.
""I
am very happy, that despite the time delay of several years,
we now are presenting the movie. The truth is we spend a
wonderful time in New Zealand during the taping, it felt
like having vacation, because both Carlos and I brought
with us our family over there"" told Eduardo.
How was this working experience Eduardo had, working with
Carlos Ponce?
""Wonderful
absolutely wonderful, we became huge friends""
What
happened with Eduardo Verástegui, who disappeared for a
while, staying away from the media?
""After
doing Chasing Papi, I decided to take a hiatus, to reflect
and to decide where to go next with my career. It's my biggest
dream to create my own opportunities, and for this reason
I funded my own production company. My production company
is named Metanoia Films. Right now we are producing our
first movie, titled ""Bella"" (Beautiful), and the movie
was shot in New York"".
Is it true you are going to tape a movie of Mother Theresa?
""It's
included in my plans yes, for several years now, but up
until now it didn't materialize. We are working on it, and
I hope it will be my next movie as producer.""
You'll
return to México, as being rumoured?
""I
will go to México, where my family is, but regarding to
my work, I'll stay working in the US, I'll continue the
challenge working here.""
Was it difficult to open the doors of opportunity in Hollywood?
""Yes,
especially because the Latin people are treated always the
same, they always are placed into the same character role.
I am working as hard as possible to prevent this happening
to myself as well.
For his part, Carlos Ponce confirmed, yes it was a privilege
to spend time working together with his friend Eduardo Verástegui.
""It
was just fantastic. As told by Eduardo, it was like a holiday
in New Zealand , together with our family. I can recommend
this movie to all of you, it's very entertaining, you'll
have a great time in the theatre watching it.
We
spend a lot of good time besides our work on the movie,
Our characters are about two friends, being friends ever
since infancy, almost like brothers, and this friendship
lasted while we grew up into adults. In reality the friendship
with Eduardo has grown too, we are very good friends right
now. This is one of the great aspects of making movies.
""
He agrees it's a great honour to both of them as Latin Americans,
they are presenting their own movie right now in Hollywood.
""
We
went here step by step. We have to continue our battle,
to open up the difficult and competitive market.
I
am very happy helping the theatrical release of the movie.
For the first time I am able to see the final result"" Verástegui
expressed, who attended the event well dressed in a black
smoking.
""I
feel so good to be able to realize movies containing a positive
message. The movie shows the moral values we as Latin Americans
believe in, the values of friendship, family, respect to
the elderly, and loyalty to your inner feelings.""
The
man from Tamaulipas adds the fact that the producer Lisa
Abott saved the project. The project facing difficulties
at the beginning.
""Lisa,
who is friend of the screenwriter, met the financial problems
of the project, so she took bold action, returning to New
Zealand, to talk with her husband about the problem, and
soon after she made that investment groups indeed invested
in our project"" he explains.
Meet Me In Miami soon will hit the box office in the US
and abroad. Soon entering the Mexican market.
""To
all my beloved audience in México, I can tell you I keep
on working hard, and soon you'll hear more of me"" Verástegui
confirms.
