The

and Carlos Ponce
has its worldwide first theatrical release at the LALIFF
film festival

The
romantic comedy ""Meet Me In Miami"" can be described as
a good example of the evolution made by the Latin movies
produced in the US over the last couple of years. Directed
by Eric Hanna and Iren Koster, the movie has its worldwide
first theatrical release, tomorrow, Saturday at the 9th
International Latin Film Festival in Los Angeles. (LALIFF)
Following
the same spirit and concept of some Hollywood comedies,
having a problematic love affair as a central theme, Meet
Me In Miami is adding this to its storyline. The elements
which everybody can recognize and identify oneself with:
naughtiness, great sense of humour, ingenious dialogues,
and a lot of handsome, attractive faces.
Produced
all in English, the movie -which will hit the box office
in 2006 when the commercial theatrical release will happen-
might have the potential to become an important stage platform
to launch Latin actors towards huge international stardom.
Amongst them are emphasized: the Cuban-Puerto-Rican actor
Carlos Ponce, the Mexican actor Eduardo Verástegui, and
the Mexican/American actor Richard Yñiguez.
""I
believe, in the end, thanks to this movie, the producers
of Hollywood start to know who the real Eduardo Verástegui
is"" told the actor while doing the interview this week.
""I hope the same will happen to Carlos Ponce, our artistic
future will be fostered greatly by the success of the movie.
And Carlos has become one of my best friends"".
The
independent movie is co-produced by the producers Lisa Abbott,
Brett Southwick and Eric Hanna, all of them natives from
New Zealand.
Meet Me In Miami offers a different view on the Latin people.
The movie breaks with the old fashioned concept of shallow
stereotypes, seen at other movies of recent years.
However
critically spoken it could be said the scenes are sometimes
somewhat ""artificially"", the movie however triumphs in
all its concepts and purposes to entertain the public, and
it sends out a positive message to the public.
""We
completed the movie 2 years ago, and I believe the movie
is ready for distribution worldwide"", explained Verástegui.""Up
yet I was not able to see the latest version, but I believe
with all my heart in its concept. Shown are the values in
which all Latin people believe, friendship, family, respect
to the elderly people, and the loyalty to your inner feelings""
.
He
agrees with all the words he said. The leading man of Chasing
Papi -the movie he didn't elaborate on- gives all his credits
to the producer Lisa Abott. He believes she made the movie
Meet Me In Miami becoming reality.
""Lisa
is friend of the screenwriter who wrote the script of our
movie"" Verástegui commented. ""She responded to a call
of her friend in which her10 year old daughter was invited
to play as an extra in the movie Meet Me In Miami. Lisa
and the child went to New Zealand, and when they arrived
on the set at Lagoon Nigel, which was the location where
we were taping, they found out the activities of movie-making
were suspended due to lack of funding. Then she decided
to go home, to talk with her husband how to solve the problem
we had. Soon after meeting various investment groups, she
succeeded in raising new funds for our project. Thanks to
all this voluntary work done by Lisa Abott, now Meet Me
In Miami can be seen tomorrow Saturday the 29th in the Egyptian
Theatre"" [at the LALIFF film festival]
Synopsis:
As provided by the producers Eric Hannah and Irene Koster,
Luis Montero (Ponce) is a young man of 23, who has all you
could wish for in life. He has it all, he has a legacy consisting
of a business empire of hotel chains. And too he has access
to the nicest and most handsome ladies of the world, due
to his wealth. Despite all this his heart longs for the
true and perfect love, the quest for the lady of his dreams.
Driven by this very obvious desire, Luis travelled to New
Zealand together with his best friend and buddy Eduardo
(Eduardo Verástegui).
He made this far off trip to this remote country, because
he is sure to find back his true love Lisa. A lady he was
passionate in love with during his teenage years.
In
addition to all the joy and pride he feels to be participating
in Meet Me In Miami, as well as enjoying working in the
relaxed friendly family-like atmosphere during the making
of the movie, Eduardo Verástegui appreciates above all the
fact this film helps him to initiate the beginning of an
important new chapter in his career.
""Soon
after we completed the taping, I took the decision I want
to do things differently"" Verástegui told. ""I was tired
of what happened around me. I am for 12 years a celebrity
right now, and right now I am no longer interested in doing
commercial movies just because of the money, power and fame.""
At the same time I went through a profound inner change,
bringing me out of darkness and into the Light. Today I
am an artist more responsible than I was before. However
it was not easy to me to succeed in retrieving humanity,
I feel happy and at peace because I did""
Meet
Me in Miami’ is to be seen tomorrow Saturday the 29th of
October, at 7:30 p.m., in the Egyptian Theatre 6712 Hollywood
Boulevard, Los Angeles.
