EDUARDO RANKS AMONG THE TOP 50 HOTTEST STARS

June's issue of Spanish "People", on sale as from 3rd May is dedicated to the top 50 "Hottest Stars", a figure which duplicates the magazine's previous treatment of this subject. The cover, which is twice as big as the usual size, features eight Latin American "beauties", who were gathered for a photo session in Los Angeles to pose for photographer Kwaku Alston.

The chosen ones for the cover are a singer, six actors and TV presenter Myrka Dellanos, who hosted the programme Univisión Primer Impacto as she was having a high-voltage romance with Luis Miguel.

Apart from Myrka, the cover also features vocalist Luis Fonsi and actors Eduardo Verastegui, Juan Soler, Roselyn Sánchez, Bárbara Mori, Michelle Rodríguezi and Nicholas González - who was a last-minute replacement for Kuno Becker, who could not make it to the studio on time.

The shoot and the special issue of the magazine will be the main topic of discussion of a TV special, which will be broadcast by Telemundo this Sunday, titled "The top 50 most beautiful stars", hosted by Miguel Varoni y Gaby Spanic. One of the chosen beauties, Spanish singer David Bisbal, will be performing in the programme.

THE GOLDEN EAGLE AWARDS

The ceremony which is annually organized by "Grupo Nosotros" will be held this Friday in the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Golden Eagle will be awarded to José José, Jacob Vargas, Wanda de Jesús, Josefina López, Dionicio Alvarez, David Valdés, Mike Gómez, Ed Begely Jr., Diane Medina and Renán Almendárez Coello "El Cucuy".

The Awards will be presented by Raquel Welch, Olga Breeskin (who will fly from Las Vegas), Eduardo Verástegui, King Clave, Eduardo Palomo, Liz Torres, Apollonia, Jorge Rivero, Lupe Ontiveros, Luis Avalos, Edward Albert, Armando Infante, Maximiliam, Pablo Santos y Rick Téllez.

As usual in this kind of event, there will be music performers such as Cris Franco, Magdalyne, Grupo Sabor y Caché, David Cruz, Trío Los Salazar, YiYi "La Rumbera", the band Los Niños de Mariachi Plaza and Johnny Polanco and his band Amistad.

The actor Ricardo Montalbán, founder member of the Grupo Nosotros, will be the main host and will be presenting together with the celebrated actor Tony Curtis the award dedicated to José José. Margarita Cannon and Miranda Garrison will be the producer and director of the show, respectively.

IMAGEN AWARDS IN BEVERLY HILLS

As usual, the event was held in the prestigious hotel Beverly Hills, a ceremony which featured some of the most outstanding Latin artists on American television. The Foundation not only presents the Awards but also celebrates the triumphs of music, theatre and cinema personalities. Eduardo Verástegui was counted among the presenters.

EDUARDO SWEPT THEM OFF THEIR FEET

Thalía and the Estefans welcomed the 2002 in pyjamas and in good company. The meeting point was Gloria and Emilio's luxurious mansion on an island off the coast of Miami Beach, where 250 guests welcomed the New Year while dancing and praying as well, as at midnight, music was halted so that the guests, led by Gloria, could say their prayers in memory of the victims of the calamitous events of September 2001 and to plead for a better light in 2002. After some moments of reflection, the guests were taken over by joy once again, and it's said that they partied until dawn.

A quick survey among the guests revealed that Thalía was wearing the sexiest pyjamas. Another sexy lady was Gloria herself, in a black satin nightdress and smart high-heels, she was praised for her bustling energy and her fine figure since although she has borne two children her smart, distinguished bearing is still admired.

As regards men, sensuality was in the hands of Eduardo Verástegui who, despite being very casually dressed, rushed to his car to get hold of his workout shorts on seeing everybody was wearing pyjamas. He put them on and undid the buttons on his shirt, driving many of the women present to the verge of madness. It could have been worse had not his parents been with him!

Among the most cautious celebrities we can name Jon Secada, Carlos Ponce, Emilio Estefan sporting quite conventional blue Armani pyjamas, Lily Estefan, the new members of Miami Sound Machine, and others. Together with their families, they all enjoyed a great seafood assortment, Arabic appetizers, Argentinian "empanadas", chocolate and Cuban "churros". "It was not a New Year Resolution to pay any attention to our diets" Emilio was reported to have said later.

A FUNNY INTERVIEW

TV presenter Tony Dandrades is well known for his short height. He has lived the funniest moment of his career recently and he still laughs loudly about it when he recalls the event.

Tony Dandrades, the popular presenter of the show Primer Impacto has certainly learnt how to take things easy.

"It all happened while I was covering the shooting of "El último adios" (The final goodbye) he chuckles. "I was supposed to interview Eduardo Verástegui and the Puma at the same time. As they were both much taller than me, I decided to step on a rolled-up carpet I came across to do the interview and be at their same level. But, towards the end of the interview my plan crumbled: the cameraman showed my feet and the whole world learned of my true height".
