Anecdotes
of his childhood
It's
said that he was a naughty boy, I believe he just wanted
to play...
His parents got engaged when they were still very young.
His mother Alicia Córdoba was 16 years old and his father
José Verástegui, 19. José was the only boyfriend Alicia
ever had. Four years had passed when they got married on
11th August, 1973. Ten months later, on 21st May 1974, Eduardo
was born by caesarean section. He was the first-born child
and grandchild of both families, he was therefore spoiled
by all.
1.-
His parents really wanted a baby boy and his father made
lots of bets with his friends that their baby would be a
boy. Eduardo's birth made them blissfully happy, and rich
as well! .
2.- Eduardo had lots of baby clothes, that's why he was
dressed in a different way every day. ( you can see some
nice pictures in the gallery)
3.-
His first pet was a little dog called " La Giovana ", he
has always found animals fascinating.
4.-
He has always loved eating fruit, especially mangoes. (in
fact, Eduardo is eating a mango in my favourite photo, you
can see it in the "Childhood gallery". That photo was taken
by his father in Sierra de Gómez Farías en Tamaulipas, you
can see that Eduardo is hiding a little mango under his
leg, he used to do so, so that people wouldn't take the
mangoes away from him) As a grown-up, the dessert he enjoys
the most is the so-called "Pie de Mango" (Mango's foot).
5.-
When Eduardo was three, his dad had to travel to Veracruz
on business. Back then, Eduardo's hero was King Kong, and
on his return, his father brought him a toy, a tiny King
Kong. One of his buddies had been given a remote-controlled
robot. They decided to stage a fight between the robot and
his King Kong. Unfortunately for Eduardo, the robot defeated
his King Kong. So Eduardo kicked the robot and chipped its
head off. He then announced: "Now MY King Kong has won the
battle".
6.-
Three-years-old Eduardo used to say that his name was "José
Eduardo Verástegui Córdoba Capullina Cepellín Superman King
Kong", his favourite characters' names.
7.-
The security guards back home called Lalo "King Kong" and,
whenever he tried to escape from his house, they told his
mother what "King Kong" was up to. His mother would answer
that she hadn't allowed him to go outside.
8.-
When he was seven he got his first job was as a "Bolero"
(he polished shoes). He really didn't need to work, he just
wanted to make his own money. His parents still treasure
at home the little box that used to do the work with.
9.-
The lion cub in the photos in the "Childhood Gallery" was
an African lion from the zoo known as "African Safari" from
Pueblas State.
10.-
A neighbour once warned Eduardo's mother that the little
boy was on the other side of a nearby river. Eduardo's mum
was terrified because the river was too wide, Eduardo was
only three and therefore, he didn't know how to swim. He
seems to have crossed the river "riding" his Labrador. Edu's
mum rushed to the river, but once she got there, she noticed
that Eduardo and the dog were on their way back. She kept
silent for fear he might fall off the dog and drown in the
water, but as son as he was on the shore, she grabbed him
and smacked Lalo's bottom on the way back home. Eduardo
says that it was thanks to his Labrador that he learnt to
swim.
11.-
He loved climbing trees. One day, he came out to play, climbed
a tree and fell asleep right there, on a branch. Someone
told his dad where he was. His parents feared that if they
shouted at him to come back down, he would wake up abruptly
and fall to the floor.
12.-
He once rode his horse all day long, without letting anyone
know where he was.
13.-
When he was five, he had a little drum set which his dad
had given him (you can see the picture in the "Childhood
Gallery"). He loved playing with it. Once, Eduardo and his
friend Manolo took it to pieces to make a plane. They wanted
to fly. As soon as the plane was ready, it was tied to a
car, so that it would be dragged and lifted once the car
sped up. The car began to move at high speed, but as it
reached the corner, the driver, Manolo's sister, saw the
aircraft in the rear-view mirror, stopped the car, and took
the boys to their mothers, so Eduardo and his friend had
to put off their illusion of flying for a while.
14.-
Eduardo has always been very smart and he made good progress
in his studies. He was four when he began Primary school,
10 when he began Secondary school and prep school at 15.
15.-
As a small child, he wouldn't let anyone walk him to school.
He wanted to go to school alone, like an adult. When he
was four, he was walked to school by his nanny, Sara, which
made him extremely upset. One day, as they were passing
by the Hydraulic Resources offices, Eduardo saw a puddle
of water. The moment they were in the middle of the puddle
of water, he tackled Sara, making her fall. Sara was covered
in mud and so, had to come back home. All the witnesses
had a laugh, as Eduardo could go to school on his own, as
he wanted.
16.-
Eduardo had been to the cinema with a friend to see Superman.
Once back home, he gave his friend a cushion and asked him
to hold it as he was going to jump off the roof from the
second floor. Edu told his friend to catch him with the
cushion in case he did not manage to fly. He jumped off
the roof, falling on top of his friend. His friend broke
his leg and Edu injured his mouth with his own knee.
Anecdotes
of his adolescence
Eduardo
landed a little job at the age of 14. He was selling hotdogs,
at a selling point just around the corner.
It
was here where Eduardo enjoyed the talent of selling which
he did very well.
His
third job was selling ice creams in the afternoon, after
school he used to walk all around the town selling the ice
creams. but there was something funny about that job, everytime
he looked at a car of some girl he liked he pretended he
wasn't selling the ice creams then when the girl was gone,
he kept working as if nothing had happened.
Now Eduardo tells that it wasn't a very good job because
of the warm days he used to eat half of the ice creams he
was supposed to sell and at the end of the day he had to
put of his own money.
Eduardo
has the nicest memories of the lake Emilio portes Gil that
is just 15 minutes from Xicotencatl.. When he was a kid
he used to go on weekends with his parents, sisters, and
friends to fish.
One
day he went out all day riding on a horse.
Anecdotes
of his adulthood
After
his first Telenovela Eduardo returned to New York, to study
acting classes, and once more tried to land a contract as
singer. New York is a difficult place to survive and Eduardo
knew. He saw many lobbies of record companies, but never
went beyond those. Each time after delivering his press
packet, he soon after found a written note in his mailbox
with another diplomatic written rejection.
Doing
modelling for famous agencies Eduardo earned sufficient
money for his daily expenses. But he noticed there was stiff
competition in the world of modelling. After a year he returned
to Mexico right now his reputation as actor firmly established.
But robbed of his dream to become singer..
After
many more attempts to land a contract as singer, he finally
gave it up and went to Miami, 2000. In Miami, the most ""Latin

similar asset of other people. After more than 550 hours
of acting in Telenovelas, Eduardo became the best known
face at Miami Beach, where he did impressive physical workout,
to strengthen his muscles of steel. Furthermore Eduardo
became addicted to the eating of tuna, and the other delicious
foods available. However running low on money even without
a car, Eduardo kept positive, pumping up the volume of the
music at his little studio, nicknamed ""La Vecinidad del
Chavo"" by his friends.
His press packet was forwarded to the well known name Fernán
Martínez in the music industry, a manager with good credentials,
and known for his skills to scoop up young new music talents
like Eduardo. After receiving the press packet of Eduardo,
just 5 days later Eduardo was at the music studio, grabbing
the microphone, and demonstrating his talents. When he left
the studio, Eduardo had a manager, songwriter, and a staff
of producers, embarking on the same project.
While
the CD was rolling off the press, Eduardo called his dad,
and three sisters. By phone he demonstrated the songs to
his five friends from ""La Vecinidad del Chavo"", who nicknamed
Eduardo ""Lalo"", wich name is widely familiar through his
family, friend and countless fans.
